We have received funding from the Government to provide grants to support hospitality, hotel, accommodation and leisure sector businesses which were not legally required to close before 5 November 2020, but which have been severely impacted by the local restrictions on socialising. The eligible business types in Leicester and the grant amounts are in line with the Government’s expectations. The detailed list of eligible businesses is shown in our policy and the FAQs. This grant runs from the introduction of local socialisation restrictions on 1 August 2020 through to 4 November 2020.
The new national lockdown restrictions came into effect from 5 November 2020 and different grant schemes apply for the duration of the lockdown, as determined by the government:
• Businesses which are both legally required to close and which pay rates directly to the Council should apply for the Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed) (Addendum) grant - the national lockdown grant.
• Businesses which are not legally required to close or which do not pay rates directly to the Council are expected to receive support from the Additional Restrictions Grant, for which we hope to make payments in December.
The grant schemes that will apply after the national lockdown ends will depend on any further local restrictions that may apply and details will appear on our website.
Grants will only be paid where all the eligibility criteria are met. Grants can only be paid to those businesses in the relevant sectors that occupy premises shown in the local rating list as at 1 August 2020 and which were trading on 31 July 2020.
How much funding will be provided?
Payments will be based on the rateable value of the business premises on 1st August 2020. The first payment will be made for the 96 days from 1 August to 4 November 2020:
1. Eligible businesses occupying properties with a rateable value of £15,000 or under, or businesses sharing space: grants of £934 per 28-day period. Pro-rata for Leicester 96 days = £3,200;
2. Eligible businesses occupying properties with a rateable value above £15,000 and below £51,000: grants of £1,400 per 28-day period. Pro-rata for Leicester 96 days = £4,800;
3. Eligible businesses occupying properties with a rateable value of £51,000 and above: grants of £2,100 per 28-day period. Pro-rata for Leicester 96 days = £6,600.

What happens next?
We aim to process payments to all eligible businesses as soon as reasonably practicable.
Please note that BEIS (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) will be given access to the relevant data in your application. BEIS will store it securely and process it for monitoring and evaluation purposes only. This includes, but is not limited to, follow up evaluation surveys relating to the business support grant schemes.
