ADDITIONAL RESTRICTION GRANT - JANUARY 2022

On 21 December 2021, the Government announced that a further £102 million would be made available for Local Authorities, as a top-up to the previous Additional Restrictions Grant.

This funding is intended to support businesses from sectors that may have been severely impacted by restrictions, or by the Omicron variant, including those outside of the business rates system and which have not received any other new grant funding. Our qualifying businesses for the additional restrictions grant are listed below.

Leicester’s qualifying businesses:

• Hospitality, leisure and accommodation businesses occupying a shared space and are not liable for Business Rates or entitled to the mandatory Omicron Hospitality and Leisure grant;
• Places of public worship with defined and separate community facilities;
• Travel agents and tour operators;
• Marquee hire, coach hire and coach tour operators, event caterers and event operators, breweries, and film producers;
• Gyms and sports businesses (including dance and fitness studios, sports centres and clubs, sports courts and swimming pools) which have lost at least 30% of their expected revenue (income) between November 2021 and January 2022 ; or
• Small and micro suppliers to the leisure, hospitality, events and accommodation sectors, which have lost at least 30% of their expected revenue (income) between November 2021 and January 2022;
• Personal Care businesses - defined as a business which provides a service, treatment or activity for the purposes of personal beauty, hair, grooming, body care and aesthetics, and wellbeing, which have lost at least 30% of their expected revenue (income) between November 2021 and January 2022

Level of grant

The amount payable is dependant upon the rateable value of the property and is based in line with the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure grant levels:

• Rateable Value of £15,000 or less: a grant of £2,667
• Rateable Value over £15,000 and less than £51,000: a grant of £4,000
• Rateable Value of £51,000 or above: a grant of £6,000
Where the premises are shared or not rated, then the lower band, i.e. £2,667 will be paid

The personal care sector has been added later in the grant process when it became evident that the other categories would not claim all of the available funding. Funding of circa £300,000 is expected to be available. There are many businesses in the sector and if applications exceed the available funding at the standard grant values, the funding may be shared across all eligible applications.
